About Shiatsu
What is Shiatsu?
It is a traditional Japanese form of massage, based on the principles of oriental medicine. Shiatsu works in a holistic fashion to treat both mind and body.
Shiatsu can help alleviate stress, relax and rejuvenate, leaving you energised, and feeling a little more nourished and supported, and ready for whatever the rest of the day has to offer!
The practitioner uses their hands to stimulate acupressure points and meridian lines along the body. This may also include stretches and rotations of the limbs and joints. Shiatsu usually takes place on a Futon Mat on the floor, but clients can also be treated seated in a chair.
Guidelines for receiving Shiatsu
- Wear comfortable and loose fitting clothing
- Avoid eating heavily for an hour before the treatment
- Avoid drinking alcohol prior to the treatment
- Afterwards drink plenty of water
- Avoid stressful or intensive activities after the session where possible
